Semax got an 8-5 vote from an FDA advisory panel on 24 July 2026. Selank got no vote, because it was never put in front of the panel. That single difference is the clearest place to start a selank vs semax comparison, since the two peptides otherwise get lumped together as "the Russian nootropics".

We compared them on origin, research focus, US status and what you can actually buy. The short version: they are different molecules from the same research culture, neither is FDA-approved, and on the US research market we follow, selank is only available mixed with semax.

The side-by-side table

The fastest way to see selank vs semax is in one table, using only what is established about each.

Different starting molecules

Selank and semax come from different parent molecules, which is the main scientific distinction between them. Selank is a seven-amino-acid chain built on tuftsin. Semax is built on a fragment of ACTH, the hormone better known for its role in the stress-hormone system.

Because the parents differ, the research questions differ too. Russian work on selank leans toward anxiety. Work on semax leans toward cognition, and vendor listings for the modified form point to literature on BDNF and NGF, two growth factors studied in brain research. These are lab-level themes, not confirmed effects in people.

How each fares with US regulators

Semax has moved one step further in the US process than selank, but neither is legal to compound yet. The PCAC recommended semax for the 503A bulks list on 24 July 2026 by 8 votes to 5. The recommendation is non-binding: the FDA must decide, then publish proposed and final rules with public comment.

Selank has no such recommendation and was not reviewed. So if semax is eventually added, selank would still be outside the compounding framework. We go through the dates and what they mean on the FDA status page.

Neither compound was named in the FDA's 24 August 2026 warning letters to five online vendors. That is not a clean bill of health. The letters made clear that the FDA judges a whole website, not the "research use only" line.

What you can buy in each case

On the US research market we follow, you can buy semax on its own but not selank on its own. Peptide God lists two products:

  • N-Acetyl Semax Amidate, $49.95, a solution. The vendor describes it as more stable than base semax.
  • Selank + Semax Blend, $59.95, a solution with a fixed ratio of the two peptides.

That means anyone who wants selank in their research is also getting semax. It also means a clean selank vs semax comparison in a lab is hard with these products alone: you can study semax by itself, or semax plus selank, but not selank by itself. We think buyers should know that before ordering. The blend page covers what the fixed ratio means, and the semax page explains how N-acetyl semax amidate differs from base semax.

Price and order math

The selank-containing option costs $10.00 more than the semax-only option, roughly 20% on top of $49.95. Both are from the same vendor with the same terms: free US shipping over $100 and 30-day free returns.

One of each comes to $109.90, which passes the free-shipping threshold. That pairing is also the closest thing to a comparison set these listings allow, since it gives you semax alone next to semax with selank.

Which one buyers usually mean

Most people searching "selank vs semax" are deciding between the two products above, not between two pure peptides. If your research question is about selank specifically, the honest answer is that our vendor does not offer it alone. If it is about semax, the single solution is the direct route.

Both are research compounds, not approved medicines in the US, and neither listing comes with usage guidance. For anything to do with your own health, talk to your doctor.

How we review. We compare each product on the vendor’s own page on the date shown: price, vial size, price per mg, stated purity and whether a batch-specific COA from a third-party lab is published. We do not run lab tests ourselves and we do not test peptides on people. Rankings are updated when prices or COAs change. Last checked: November 2026.
