Semax is the only one of the two Russian peptides to get a vote from the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee: 8 in favor, 5 against, on 24 July 2026. On the US research market, the version you can actually buy is not base semax but N-Acetyl Semax Amidate, sold by Peptide God as a solution for $49.95. This page explains how the two forms differ and what the vote does and does not change.
We cover semax here because it is selank's sister peptide and because, on the listings we follow, every selank product also contains it.
Base semax is a synthetic peptide built on a fragment of ACTH, developed in Russia and registered there as a medicine. ACTH is a hormone involved in the body's stress response, so semax starts from a very different parent molecule than selank, which is built on tuftsin.
Most semax research is Russian and focused on cognition. Vendor listings point to literature on BDNF and NGF, growth factors studied in brain research. Those are research topics drawn mostly from lab and animal work. They have not been confirmed in large controlled trials in people, and semax is not FDA-approved.
N-acetyl semax amidate is a modified form of semax, and it is the form research vendors sell. The name describes two chemical changes, one at each end of the peptide chain: an acetyl group on one end and an amide on the other.
Peptide God's listing says the modified form is "more stable than base semax". That is the vendor's stated reason for selling it, and we report it as a vendor claim. The listing does not give a purity percentage, only "lab-tested", and it notes that the literature behind it is mostly Russian.

The July 2026 vote means semax is recommended for the 503A bulks list, not added to it. The 503A list names the substances US compounding pharmacies may use. The committee's vote is non-binding. The FDA must make its own decision and then complete proposed and final rulemaking with public comment.
As of the July meeting, semax had not been added and could not yet be compounded. Even if it is added later, that would concern compounding pharmacies, not research-vendor solutions, and the vote did not address modified forms such as N-acetyl semax amidate. Selank was not reviewed at all. Our FDA status page sets out both timelines.
You can buy semax by itself for $49.95 or with selank in the Selank + Semax Blend for $59.95. The $10.00 difference buys the selank component, in a ratio the vendor fixes.
We think anyone comparing the two peptides needs both products, since selank is not sold alone. The blend page and the selank vs semax comparison go further.
Buying semax responsibly starts with knowing which product you are ordering. The most frequent mix-up is treating "semax" and "N-acetyl semax amidate" as the same product. They share a parent molecule, but the modified form is what research vendors sell, and its listing is the one whose details you can check.
We see each of these in buyer questions, and each one changes what you think you are ordering.
The seller's behavior matters as much as the label. Semax was not named in the FDA's 24 August 2026 warning letters, but the agency made clear it judges whole websites. Sellers that add dosing advice, preparation tools or disease claims are treating a research compound as a drug.
Peptide God ships free in the US over $100 and offers 30-day free returns. Semax remains unapproved in the US and is sold for research use. For your own health, talk to your doctor.
